The war between Russia and Ukraine has had a massive geopolitical fall out that has been felt across globe.

Finland has finally changed its long time neutral stance and at last joined NATO. In response it has had to quickly procure defensive weapons to shield from any potential Russian onslaught.

Finland announced that it is seeking to purchase Israel’s David’s Sling missile defense system in a deal worth some $344 million.

“The David’s Sling system will extend the operational range of Finland’s ground-based air defense capabilities significantly,” the statement said.

“This acquisition will create a new capability for the Finnish Defence Forces to intercept targets at high altitude. At the same time we are continuing the ambitious and long-term development of Finland’s defense capability in a new security environment,” said Minister of Defence Antti Kaikkonen.

Ukraine has been trying to buy this same system from Israel, but under Russian pressure, Israel has balked in selling to the war torn country.

However, it appears that Israel’s non-alliance stance may scuttle the deal – after all Jerusalem does not want Finland gifting Ukraine Israel’s David’s Sling.
