Gwen Berry an American athlete turned her back on the American flag during the national anthem as she stood on the podium. Her actions drew widespread condemnation. After all, how can she be representing a country she doesn’t even respect?
If that was not a sign things have reached a new low in the USA, according to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said: “Part of that pride in our country means recognizing there are moments where we are – as a country, haven’t lived up to our highest ideals, and it means respecting the right of people, granted to them in the Constitution, to peacefully protest.”
Essentially what she is saying is that it is ok to be disrespectful to the country that is funding and supporting your professional success.
So now, the Biden administration is making the case that the more critical one can be of America makes one more patriotic. If that is not inverse logic – I don’t know what is.
