In a move that is sure to raise fears of a reverse in USA policy, Biden has now frozen arms deals with Saudi Arabia and most importantly the UAE.
Part of the outcome of the Israel-UAE peace deal was a sale of the F-35 stealth fighter to the UAE. It is true that the peace deal was not contingent on this, but it was clear that it was part of it.
Biden’s move to freeze this deal until further review puts into question his commitment to securing a sound peace between Israel and its Sunni neighbors. Unfortunately, with many in the Biden administration looking jump back into the the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA), the Gulf States and Israel sees this pause in the arms sales Trump had promised, as very problematic and emblematic of what is to come.
The fact is, any weakness on the part of the USA puts Israel and its new alleis in grave danger. At the same time it also proves the point on why they need to work together even more.
