Breaking the Stigma in the IDF

The world is trying to break the stigma that surrounds mental health. People need to know: It is okay to seek help. It is okay to be in a position where you need someone else to guide you through. That is not a weakness, it is a strength. It shows that someone is aware enough of what his needs are. Why should it ever be something negative when a person decides he wants to grow, improve, and better his life? That is a commendable thing! And in the IDF, there are mental health officers who help guide the soldiers when they need an extra hand. And as the officer in this video said, even when a soldier’s struggle has nothing to do with the army, the army encourages them to see one of the mental health officers. A mentally healthy army is just as important as a physically healthy army.

We are not put in this world to solve everything ourselves. Human interaction is part of human necessity! Seeking help is often the only way to overcome challenges. It is not a lacking when someone seeks help, and that is what more people need to understand. It is a positive thing to ask for help from those who work in the mental health field. And it’s good to know that the Israel Defense Forces is taking mental health seriously!
