Last night Israelis on the Gaza border were surprised to hear air raid sirens go off, warning them to run to their bomb shelters. Israel then launched Iron Dome rockets to shoot down the projectiles and protect Israeli citizens.
Thankfully no rockets were fired into Israel and nobody was injured.
Israeli citizens from various Southern communities recorded the rockets being launched, before running to their shelters.
It ends up that Hamas did not shoot a barrage of rockets at Israel. Rather, Hamas was conducting a live-fire drill, which mostly consisted of machine gun fire as well as rocket fire.
The IDF also responded to the Hamas drill with tank shells fired on Hamas posts in Northern Gaza.
Sensitive Security Situation
The incident is a reminder to us all of the extremely sensitive security situations Israel finds itself in at this moment.
Just the other day there was a serious breach of Israel’s security fence surrounding Gaza. A group of Gaza men cut the security fence and tried to set fire to some Israeli machinery.
As a response to this severe breach, the IDF spokesman commented that “yesterday the security fence next to Israel & the Gaza Strip was damaged & there was an attempt to arson an engineering vehicle. In response the IAF targeted a terror objective in a military compound in southern Gaza, belonging to Hamas. The IDF will continue to thwart all attempts to harm the State of Israel. We will respond severely against those who wish to harm Israeli civilians.” Israel holds Hamas responsible for all aggression coming from the Gaza Strip”
Mass Gaza March
All this is taking place at the exact time that Gazans are preparing a massive protest march. They are preparing for hundreds of thousands to march on the Gaza fence. They are calling it the “Mass March of Return”.
Interestingly, it was the Arabs who the lost the 1948 war that turned them into refugees. They launched that war to destroy Israel and kill all the Jews. Yet they demand to “return” to the homes that they ran away from in that war, that they laun. Nowhere else in the world does such a concept exist.
Due to this serious situation, the border is very tense, hence a partial explanation for the firing of the Iron Dome rockets.
The coming days will see a significant boost in IDF forces situated along the Gaza border in preparation for the mass march on Friday.
Thank you USA
Interestingly enough, just this week the US Senate and House of Representatives approved by a large majority a $706 million allocation for Israeli military procurement in the 2018 US budget. These funds will help the further development of the Iron Dome and David’s Sling missile defense systems. As well as the Arrow 3 missile defense program.
We are thankful to the United States for understanding the importance of this missile development. As they have proven, these systems will help Israel and the USA protect the freedom loving world.
