Hamas has been trying to smuggle weapons into Gaza for some time. First it was through tunnels, but Egypt closed that down. Lately, Hamas has resorted to sea. Thankfully, the IDF naval forces in conjunction with the Shin Bet, neutralized a Hamas attempt to smuggle weapons into the Gaza Strip from the northern Sinai. This particular incident happened 3 months ago.

After the IDF Naval Control Unit located the vessel suspected of smuggling, the unit directed the fighters of Navy company 916 and the Navy’s Snapir special force towards the target.

After a chase, the smuggling vessel with two terrorists onboard were arrested and interrogated. The investigation revealed that the weapons were meant to be used by Hamas’ terrorist commando naval forces.

These sorts of Naval monitoring operations go a long way to help prevent the further arming of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and do direct damage to the capabilities of the naval commando unit of Hamas.

The IDF’s naval forces monitor and capture terrorists and prevent smuggling activities in their early stages in order to prevent the intensification of terrorist operations in the Gaza Strip.
