WhatsappThe Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it eliminated a senior Hamas drone commander during a precision strike in central Gaza on Saturday, targeting a key figure involved in the terrorist organization’s aerial warfare capabilities.
According to the IDF, the strike killed Hamam Eid, the commander of Hamas’ drone unit operating in the central Gaza refugee camps. Eid played a central role in the development and production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) used by Hamas to attack Israeli civilians and IDF forces.
Military officials said that as part of his responsibilities, Eid oversaw the manufacture of attack drones and previously served as the commander of Hamas’ quadcopter unit in central Gaza. During his time in that position, he participated in multiple aerial terrorist operations directed against Israeli troops operating in the Gaza Strip.
The IDF also stated that in recent months, Eid had been actively attempting to rebuild Hamas’ aerial warfare capabilities. According to the military, these efforts were carried out in direct violation of the ceasefire agreement, as Hamas sought to restore its drone infrastructure despite ongoing understandings intended to reduce hostilities.
Hamas has increasingly relied on drones throughout the war for intelligence gathering, surveillance, and attacks against Israeli military positions. The elimination of senior operatives responsible for these capabilities is part of Israel’s broader effort to prevent the terrorist organization from reestablishing its military strength.
The IDF emphasized that Southern Command forces remain deployed throughout the Gaza Strip in accordance with operational requirements and existing agreements. Israeli forces, the military said, will continue acting proactively to remove any threat to Israel’s security and prevent Hamas from rebuilding its terrorist infrastructure.
The operation reflects Israel’s ongoing campaign to target Hamas’ command structure and degrade the organization’s ability to launch future attacks against Israeli civilians and security forces.
