This is not the first time Xu Na has been arrested. Fourteen years ago, she and her husband, both Falun Gong practitioners were arrested just before the Beijing Summer Olympics. Her husband died in police custody. While Xu Na is supposedly not being sentenced to jail for her beliefs this time, all of the arrestees and whistle blowers taken into custody last year happen to be Falun Gong practitioners.

The Falun Gong movement took the CCP by surprise in the 1990s and the Chinese Communist Party deemed its peaceful and meditative nature a threat to their control.

Falun Gong practitioners are routinely harassed and imprisoned.

Like any other fascist and authoritarian regime, the CCP fears being seen as weak to the masses. The fact that it was the Wuhan virology lab that leaked the COVID-19 pathogen had been kept secret from most of the Chinese public. Yet, the CCPs fear is more than just about how the pathogen spread from China to the world, it is the almost paranoid nature of the CCPs response.

On one hand the CCP used the crisis to crack down on dissidents, but it also attempted to pretend that there was no crisis at all. Often times images of countless deaths were sent to international media to create fear across the world, while these same images were kept from the Chinese public.

For China, the Beijing games are critical not only for the CCP’s prestige on the world stage, but also the CCP’s control within China itself.

Persecuting the Falun Gong weeks before the games is a necessary step in order to reign in the possibility of growing protests due to the regime’s treatment of minorities, including Uygurs, Tibetans, Mongols, and Falun Gong followers. Unlike other countries, where such a crackdown would spur an uprising, the CCP knows that increasing the fear works on its citizenry.

However, the real story is the corruption that exists on the world stage whenever it is connected to CCP run China. From the WHO to the Olympic Committee, the CCP has its tentacles of control. Unfortunately these tentacles reach all the way into the leadership of America, which is why no matter how many news stories are run about China and its gross human rights violations, nothing ever seems to happen.
