The FBI has a checkered history. As many good things as the FBI has done to insure the safety of Americans, it has also done many very bad things. That may sound very simplistic. But it is true. The FBI is a shadowy part of the government that is supposed to work in shadows. By it’s very nature, most of what it does is supposed to be hidden from the eyes of most people. Otherwise, it would be ineffective. But due to it’s hidden manner of investigating, the FBI has very few safeguards, and is easily abused due to the massive power that the agency has.

The age of J. Edgar Hoover’s reign in the FBI seemed to last forever because it spanned so many decades and eras of the 20th century. In the 1920’s Hoover was turning the fledgling predecessor into what would become the FBI. Throughout World War II and the era of the Cold War, Hoover was at the forefront of the battle against threats from within.

But Hoover also used – really abused – his powerful role in order to blackmail Presidents and other powerful figures. He knew the skeletons in everybody’s closet better than anyone else. Presidents came and went. Everybody was too scared to try and replace Hoover. That led to Hoover having more and more power as the fixture within the government apparatus. The Kennedys hated Hoover. Hoover hated the Kennedys. This impacted the running of the country in a myriad of ways.

Today’s FBI has become weaponized in order to combat the “threat” of a Donald Trump reelection. Are there really no more important matters for the FBI than to make sure that Donald Trump didn’t steal important documents from the White House? America needs a major reset, and so does the FBI.
