Atheists Should Teach Their Children about G-d and Religion – Here’s Why

G-d is a positive thing for mental health. That’s what the stats show. More specifically, when G-d is in the mix of people’s lives, there is more richness and meaning in people’s lives. Why? What is it about a belief in a higher entity that enriches our lives so much?

God’s existence provides solace. It teaches us to have borders in our lives as we understand that we are not in control. There is something in this world that is way beyond our mind’s understanding, and we are part of that Being. That is not just a nice thought. It is a very liberating thought that allows a person to have the right perspective on their own lives. Narcissism disappears very quickly when one views themselves as a small part of a whole.

What is so unique about this psychoanalyst’s ideas is that she argues to “fake it” even if one doesn’t truly believe in G-d. Really? Yes. Why? Because the children need it. And not only the children – we all do. We all need a dose of reality in our life – even if we don’t truly or fully believe in it. The key is to not be self-absorbed. That is the essence of the argument – and that is a very valid point.
