For the first time since the 2014 Gaza war, rockets have been shot at Tel Aviv. Terrorists in Gaza fired two rockets tonight into the Tel Aviv metro area. Contradicting reports have surfaced regarding the location the rockets hit and whether the Iron Dome system hit one of the rockets. What we do know is that no serious injuries have been reported.

Thankfully, no serious injuries were incurred. A 10-year-old boy was hurt during attempting to seek shelter. Some other people were treated for shock in Bat Yam.

The red alarm went off Thursday evening in Tel Aviv and across the region following the firing of two rockets from Gaza.

Initial reports said that one rocket fell into the sea while a second one was intercepted by Iron Dome, while the official IDF report issued later said that while the Iron Dome system shot off missiles to intercept the rockets, as it became apparent that they were going to land in the sea, the missiles self-destructed.

Regardless, shrapnel did fall from the sky into some of the outlying Tel Aviv residential areas.

The official IDF statement: “the warning and detection systems acted as required. Interception of air defense systems was not carried out. There is no known damage or casualties in the incident and there are no special instructions for the home front. “

Sources in Gaza report that the rockets were indeed fired from the Gaza Strip, but it is still not clear which organization is behind the rocket fire.

Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Binyamin Netanyahu is now holding security consultations at the army base in Tel Aviv with the participation of the Chief of Staff and other military chiefs.

The municipality of Tel Aviv ordered the alarms and launching of shelters and protected spaces throughout the city. In Rishon Letzion, too, the mayor decided to open the shelters.

The New Right party Chairman Naftali Bennett responded to the rocket attack on Tel Aviv Thursday evening.

“No matter who is behind the shooting tonight, Hamas bears responsibility,” Bennett said.

“In the past year I have been saying clearly: Those who allow the launching of kites will receive missiles. And anyone who does not stop missiles on Sderot will receive missiles on Tel Aviv. The time has come to defeat Hamas once and for all. No more shooting at dunes without harming the enemy, but an uncompromising pursuit and systematic liquidation of Hamas leaders.

“I call upon the prime minister to order the IDF to present the cabinet with a plan to defeat Hamas,” he said.
