WhatsappIt cannot be said enough. Big Tech is the most powerful controlling force in the world today. There are not just hundreds of millions of users of Facebook, Google, and Twitter. There are more than a billion people who use these services and a major part of them are addicted to these services. There are not just hundreds of millions of buyers on Amazon. There are millions of people who are addicted to Amazon purchases. And that is just the beginning of the story.
The main aspect of the power of big tech is their tremendous hold on the minds and opinions that spread across the world with lightning speed. If Joe Biden or Nancy Pelosi want to shift public opinion, they need to make sure that Facebook and Twitter are covering the matter properly. But if Facebook, Twitter, or Google want to shift public opinion on a matter, they don’t need Joe Biden or Nancy Pelosi. They can simply “promote” the stories that will boost their opinions with a few simple content decisions.
The issue is that there is no easy way to fix this problem outside of building a formidable competitor to Facebook, Twitter, and Google. The competitor does not even need to have more than 5-10% of market share to change everything. The problem is that getting to 5% is nearly impossible.
