It may seem like just a formality that the United States Congress stood up for the President of the State of Israel when he says something as simple as, “When the United States is strong, Israel is stronger. And when Israel is strong, the United States is more secure.” But it is very important to reiterate this truth that is beginning to be taken for granted by more and more people in the United States – and in Congress.
America – parts of America – are changing. Congress is also changing. There are now more than a handful of Congress members who are openly hostile to the State of Israel. More importantly, it is fast becoming stylish among growing numbers of young people who are progressive to be openly hostile to the State of Israel.
So do these pronouncements in Congress help? They don’t hurt. But what will make a greater impact on Congress and the rest of the freedom loving world is a massive social media push that is geared at making the younger generation understand that if they are anti-Israel, then they are haters of the truth and support terrorism.
Really? Is it that simple? Yes. The lie that claims that one can support Israel, yet work towards the destruction of the State of Israel via supporting the BDS movement is akin to those who claimed to support the Jewish people but objected to helping them during World War II. With friends like that…..
Congress is still overwhelmingly pro-Israel. But the younger Democrat members of Congress are not as overwhelmingly pro-Israel. Sprinkle in a few Republicans who are also not pro-Israel and you have a disturbing trend. The President’s speech and rousing ovation was a welcome reception that should indeed be applauded.
