Don’t Despair: America’s Election Results Could Make Israel Stronger

Election Results are in. America’s election was a disaster for anyone who cares about saving the freedom-loving America we grew up with, but no surprise.

Democrats captured both houses of Congress, strengthening political forces that will absolutely challenge President Trump’s agenda and America’s strategic relationship with Israel.

But should anyone really be surprised?

America was warned. Decades ago. Repeatedly.

In the 1980s, Yuri Bezmenov, a former Soviet propagandist who defected to the West, warned Americans about the Soviet strategy of ideological subversion. He described a long-term, decades-long effort to undermine American society from within by influencing its education, culture, media and political institutions until its citizens struggled to recognize the threats confronting them.

Americans heard his warnings. But how many truly understood what they meant?

Then came another warning.

In May 1991, Mohamed Akram, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s North American Shura Council, authored an internal document titled “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America.”

The document described the Brotherhood’s activities as a “Civilization-Jihadist Process” and spoke of a “grand Jihad” aimed at undermining Western civilization from within.

It outlined the importance of building organizations, developing institutional networks and establishing a lasting presence throughout American society.

This was not an anonymous internet conspiracy theory.

The memorandum was discovered by FBI investigators and introduced as Government Exhibit 003-0085 during the federal Holy Land Foundation terrorism-financing trial, which resulted in convictions related to financing Hamas.

The historical document was real. Its warning deserved serious examination.

And yet, decades later, America continues struggling to confront the ideological threats that can emerge within its own institutions.

Today, we are witnessing the red-green jihadi alliance: political cooperation between the radical progressive left and jihadi movements whose underlying values are often profoundly incompatible.

The danger is not Muslim participation in American democracy. It is the failure to distinguish legitimate civic participation from organizations and movements that support jihad, political violence, terrorism and the destruction of democratic institutions.

Now consider the election of Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, a progressive Democrat endorsed by CAIR Action who opposes American military assistance to Israel.

His victory, alongside the broader Democratic gains, including many other Muslim Brotherhood supported Muslim progressives, illustrates how dramatically America’s political landscape is changing.

America cannot defend its freedom if it refuses to see the threats to that freedom.

And that brings us to Israel.

For decades, Israel has depended heavily on American military assistance. That assistance has strengthened our security, but it has also given Washington significant leverage over Israeli decisions involving our national survival.

These election results underscore the urgent need for Israel to accelerate a transformation it should have pursued long ago. That is why President Trump’s announcement yesterday that U.S. aid to Israel will end, following Netanyahu’s request and months of coordination between the two administrations, is excellent news arriving at precisely the right moment.

A transition from American financial assistance to genuine strategic partnership.

Joint research and development. Advanced military technology. Defense manufacturing. Economic cooperation.

Two sovereign nations working together because of shared strategic interests, rather than a relationship defined by financial dependence.

Israel must also demonstrate how a democratic nation can confront jihadist terrorism, protect its institutions and strengthen its national identity while safeguarding the rights of law-abiding citizens of every religion.

This is more than a political or military challenge.

It is a struggle over the identity, independence and future of free societies.

After more than 2,000 years of exile and persecution, the Jewish people did not return to our ancestral homeland to become dependent on the political fortunes of another nation.

We returned to rebuild a sovereign Jewish state.

To become a people capable of defending ourselves, governing ourselves and fulfilling our historic mission.

To become “a people that dwells alone” in the truest sense: a sovereign Jewish nation whose independence enables us to fulfill our destiny as “a light unto the nations”, not the satellite of another superpower, but a superpower in our own right.

America’s election results will create serious challenges for Israel. But they may also accelerate our journey toward genuine national independence.

And make no mistake: we have tremendous challenges ahead of us here in Israel as well.

We must confront not only the jihadist enemies beyond our borders, but also the internal red-green alliance between radical progressive Israeli forces and Israeli Arab supporters of jihadi movements, an alliance that threatens Israel’s security, sovereignty and Jewish identity, and is reflected in the political left’s willingness to form a government dependent upon two openly anti-Israel Arab parties that call Hamas a “charity organization.”

But I have no doubt that we will overcome these challenges.

The Jewish people have survived more than 2,000 years of exile, persecution, massacres and attempts to destroy us. We did not return to our ancestral homeland to surrender our future to the latest enemy seeking our destruction.

We are being forged like iron in the fire.

Through war, sacrifice, political turmoil and national awakening, we are being shaped into the proud, strong, independent Jewish nation we were always meant to be.

That is why I have one message for every Jew feeling discouraged by the US midterm election results, political uncertainty or the challenges confronting Israel and the Western world:

Strengthen your emunah! Strengthen your faith in God!

Pick up books that deepen your understanding of Jewish faith, history and destiny. Follow rabbis, teachers and thinkers who help you recognize the miraculous process unfolding before our eyes. Follow me at the Pulse of Israel.

Do not allow political headlines to define your understanding of the times we are living through.

We are witnessing the extraordinary rebirth of the Jewish people in our ancestral homeland after two millennia of exile. We are rebuilding our sovereignty, rediscovering our national identity and strengthening our connection to God.

This is not merely another chapter of political turmoil.

These are extraordinary times in the unfolding redemption of the Jewish people.

Yes, there will be challenges. Yes, there may be more suffering. And yes, we still have much work to do before Israel becomes the strong, independent Jewish nation we are destined to be.

But the Jewish people are awakening.

We will overcome our enemies. We will overcome our internal divisions. And we will emerge stronger, more faithful and more united in our historic mission.

Israel will not merely survive these turbulent times. We will emerge as a stronger Jewish nation and demonstrate to the world what it means to stand proudly for faith, freedom and national independence.

Good times are coming.

Have faith!

Am Yisrael Chai!!!
