The California Department of Education was planning on creating a new ethnic studies curriculum. The curriculum that they were going to implement is anti-Israel, neglects to include Jews as an ethnic minority, and promotes aggression against Israel. After reviewing the entire document, a coalition of Jewish groups developed thorough arguments against the curriculum. (It is important to note that this was not the first case of anti-Israel curriculum in the United States).

Yesterday, the California Board of Education announced that it will scrap the current draft ethnic-studies curriculum and develop a new model curriculum. This is due to the great outrage by California lawmakers, activists, and Jewish and pro-Israel groups for the curriculum’s “blatant bias against Israel.” The California State Board of Education stated that “the current draft model curriculum falls short and needs to be substantially redesigned.”
“Following the Instructional Quality Commission’s review and response to all public comments, a new draft will be developed for State Board of Education review and potential approval. The Board will ultimately adopt an ethnic studies model curriculum that aligns to California’s values.”
