Connecting Biden’s Hostage Deal And IDF Control Over Gaza-Egypt Border

Israel woke up to a post Shabbat announcement (that was actually made on Shabbat) by Joe Biden about a new hostage deal supposedly cooked up by Israel. Right after the announcement by Biden, which detailed a basic capitulation by Israel, the usual rancor from Israel’s opposition and even President Herzog spoke up to pressure the government to accept the deal.

Surprised by the Biden Shabbat announcement, Prime Minister Netanyahu responded that the deal is a non-starter.

“Israel’s conditions for ending the war have not changed: The destruction of Hamas military and governing capabilities, the freeing of all hostages and ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel,” Netanyahu said.

“Israel will continue to insist these conditions are met before a permanent ceasefire is put in place. The notion that Israel will agree to a permanent ceasefire before these conditions are fulfilled is a non-starter,” he added.

The goal of Biden’s announcement is about creating a “perfect storm” that is meant to sink the Prime Minister’s government unless he folds and pulls out of Gaza. Gantz and Eisenkot are on their way out and the Biden hostage deal gives them what they think is ammunition in forcing others to leave the coalition.

It’s All About Rafah

With the uncovering of the tunnels heading between Gaza and Egypt, it has become clear why the Biden team along with Egypt has been adamant about keeping Israel out of Rafah. This is not only about their tunnels, but large amount of fresh weapons have been flowing into Gaza from Egypt and were found in the tunnels.

All of this is proof of Egypt’s clear partnership with Hamas. Further, by controlling the Philadelphia corridor, Israel chokes off Hamas’ oxygen in continuing to rearm itself, thus forcing an end to Hamas’ rule. This is why Biden wants the hostage deal. The US administration wants a rearm of Hamas or its successor in order to force Israel to be always reliant on the USA.

If Bibi can hold on and push forward, there may be an attempt to take down the government, but with rightwing Gideon Saar’s outside the support, Netanyahu’s coalition can survive. Israel must control Rafah and the Philadelphia Corridor in order for victory to be achieved. Without that, Hamas will be victorious and that’s what Biden wants.
