Erdogan, the President of Turkey, a known supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood. President Trump, the opposite, and will he now name the Muslim Brotherhood a terror organization?

Muslim Brotherhood

The Muslim Brotherhood was an organization founded in 1928 in Egypt by a Muslim called Hassan al-Banna. Their stated goal is to install the Quran and the Sunnah. The Quran is the main religious text, that they believe was messages Mohammed received from Allah. The Sunnah is the text that traditional Islamic customs are discussed.

As stated by its founder al-Banna was to “drive out British colonial and other Western influences, reclaim Islam’s manifest destiny—an empire, stretching from Spain to Indonesia”.
The Muslim Brotherhood is a transnational organization as opposed a political party, but its members have created political parties in several countries, such as the Islamic Action Front in Jordan, Hamas in Gaza and the West Bank, and the former Freedom and Justice Party in Egypt. These parties are staffed by Brotherhood members but are otherwise kept independent from the Muslim Brotherhood to some degree.

Many of these political parties that have been created have become terror groups. Such as Hamas in Gaza. Originally called the Islamic Resistance Movement was established in 1987. Hamas was established from Brotherhood-affiliated charities. Hamas has been in power in Gaza since 2007.

In Israel, the Muslim Brotherhood was established in 1935. Haj Amin Al-Husseini was appointed the leader of the group by the British. Izz al-Din al-Qassam was another important leader, as he was the first to lead an armed resistance in the name of Palestine against the British. Slowly, branches of the group had sprung up in different cities across Palestine.

The Brotherhood fought with the Arabs, in the War of Independence. Afterwards, their main focus was not political but social and religious. Their aim was the upbringing of their children.

Since there are many terror groups that are associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, it makes one wonder if they are not a terror group themselves? After all, they are providing for these groups.
