Will Israel Shift To Russia?

Now that Netanyahu is back, it is clear that Israel’s stance on Russia has changed.

Under the Bennett-Lapid government, Israel came out in support of Ukraine after Russia invaded last February. Although that government never supplied military assistance in the form of drones and other state of the art weaponry, it is clear that it was moving in that direction.

Under Netanyahu, any military assistance is permanently frozen. The question is why?

Netanyahu and his security team understand that their relationship with Russia is key to holding back the growing Iranian threat coming from the North in Lebanon and Syria. While Putin is untrustworthy, he has allowed Israel continued free movement against Iranian forces in Syria.

At the end of the day, if Iran or any of its proxies attack Israel, the US will not come and help. The best defense is rapprochement with Moscow in hopes that Putin can keep the Iranian menace in line.
