Israel has been on high alert in expectation that a mass Iranian attack is about to be underway, but day after day – nothing.
Reports have come in that Iran had been planning to attack Israel on Tisha B’Av, but as the day has gone by, the attack has not come. Last week, Israel and the US stated that Iran appeared to have backed off on attacking, but that has since been revised.
Iran and Hezbollah have threatened to launch an attack against Israel in retaliation for Israel’s elimination of Fuad Shukr and Ismail Haniyeh. Despite warnings from western nations for Iran to back down, so far it hasn’t. Yet, it hasn’t fired anything either, so the question is – why?
One of the possibilities is Iran is trying to continue to build up the suspense - tactic that is meant to increase the psychological terror in the populace. Another possibility is Iran wants to see how Israel and other countries are preparing and will recalibrate its attack if necessary.
At the end of the day, the reason for the delay doesn’t matter. The fact is, Iran and Hezbollah are preparing for something big and Israel appears to be all alone.
