Will Benny Gantz Be Israel’s Next Prime Minister?

While it’s way too early to forecast who will win the Israeli election on November 1st, what is clear is that the elections are going in many different directions.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz, the head of Blue and White faction and Gideon Sa’ar, head of New Hope announced a merger. In Israeli politics, during elections campaigns, this is not unheard of. However, the merger – if successful – could land Gantz the premiership.

With 14 to 15 seats, Gantz can make the claim that he is best suited to draw the Ultra Orthodox parties away from the rightwing camp as well as bring Yair Lapid’s Blue and White party in as well.

However, this play requires Netanyahu’s camp to get less than a combined 61 seats – something that may happen.

Expect more twists and turns as the election season continues. One thing we have learned is that anything is possible.
