Whoopi Goldberg Should Stop Talking Now…
In an exchange on Monday with her co-hosts on “The View” that sparked an uproar, actress and producer Whoopi Goldberg claimed that “the Holocaust isn’t about race,” but rather about “man’s inhumanity to man.”
“If you’re going to do this, then let’s be truthful about it,” Goldberg said, before elaborating that “these [Jews and Nazis] are two white groups of people.”
Co-host Joy Behar objected, arguing that Nazis “considered Jews a different race.” Guest co-host Ana Navarro asserted that “it’s about white supremacy, it’s about going after Jews and Gypsies.” But Goldberg continued to speak.
Whoopi later apologized. Yet this late-night interview with Whoopi about the incident really puts a big question mark about her apology.
At 3:41 in the video Whoopi says about the Nazis that “you couldn’t tell who was Jewish. You had to delve deeply to find out” and her comments after.
She’s also says that she is going to “take our word for it” that the Holocaust was about race.
This interview makes her comments on The View even more horrible and exposes her as even more racist than she sounded originally. It highlights how her official apology is not really an apology at all.
The Nazis relied on their scientists who defined Jews by genetical physical traits. So, skin color might not have been one of them, but nose size was one of them. In Mein Kampf, Hitler himself declares non-Aryan races such as Jews and gypsies as inferior. Hitler singled us out as a race, but Whoopi doesn’t because to her, even after her apology, race is only skin color. How shallow of Whoopi to categorize race just as skin color and ignore the Nazis specifically targeting the extermination of the Jewish race.
The only thing Whoopi got right is calling out the evil of the Nazis. She is not antisemitic and not a Holocaust denier, but dismissing the targeting of the Jews as racist because it was “white people targeting other white people” is absolutely ignorant and horrifyingly diminishes the evil of the Nazis.
Again, this deep dive with Whoopi really questions the true sincerity of her “official” apology.
Honestly, the Jewish people are not necessarily a race or a religion, we are a nation. We include Jews of all different colors, physical character traits etc. What connects us is our heritage. We are a nation, a people. And we were targeted to be annihalated.
Plenty of people are angry at Whoopi and think she should be punished.
“This will cast a shadow over everything for a while. Even Joy Behar was heard saying backstage that Whoopi is ‘dead wrong’ and may not ever recover from this,” the source said. “Joy found this particularly troubling and couldn’t believe Whoopi wouldn’t stand corrected until she was forced.”
Plenty of people are saying that just as Hollywood punished Roseanne Barr for a bad tweet, by canceling her extremely successful show, so too should Whoopi be punished.
As of right now, ABC has suspended Whoopi for two weeks.
