Dr. Malone claims that Bill Gates has systematically monopolized the global response to infectious disease. The inference is that their are nefarious ideas behind the Bill Gates Foundation’s actions. Well, is that a reasonable supposition?

Bill Gates has been a well-known figure from the early 1980’s when as a very young man, he founded the Microsoft company. In just a few years, he had grown into one of the wealthiest people in the world, and the most dominant person in the field of personal computing. The genius was often at Apple. But the business acumen of Bill Gates was always a few steps ahead of Apple. Microsfot ended up on top of the computer revolution and Bill Gates ended up as the richest person in the world for a few decades with a net worth in the tens of billions of dollars.

Is Bill Gates driven by monopolizing things? Perhaps. But it seems to be a weak argument. Is Bill Gates’ decision to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into helping the continent of Africa become more developed and healthy also a monopolizing decision? He wants to be the sole curer of Africa? If so, and he is willing to take the steps necessary including using his huge net worth to implement it, well, isn’t that a good thing?

Being rich is not a crime. There have been many wonderful rich people and many horrible rich people. But monopolizing can indeed be a crime if it is used in a way that is deemed illegal by laws against monopolies. But Microsoft is the least of the problems today in the powerful world of high-tech. True, Microsoft has forayed into the land of woke activism with their “suggestions” on woke grammar in Micorsoft Word. But the true threat of high-tech today is in censorship and freedom of speech. That is an issue where social media companies, such as Facebook and Twitter, are front and center in leading the ban on free speech.

If the FDA and NIH are in the pocket of large pharmaceutical companies or big foundations, then that needs to be fixed. If treatments for the coronavirus exist and are being withheld for no good medical reason, then that needs to be fixed. If serious Doctors such as Dr. Malone are being silenced on social media, then that needs to be fixed. But let’s not make verbal flogging of wealthy and powerful people into the new sport of free speech battles.
