Watch The Desert Turn Into Something Magical

The Negev is Israel’s largest area in the entire Land of Israel. It is a largely desert-filled area that is dry, arid, and not filled with much growth. However, there are some areas in the desert that Israel has brought to life. It is blooming. Israel’s poppies dot the entire Land of Israel, especially areas of the Negev that receive sufficient precipitation.

It is interesting to note how many people in Israel know from their youth that they are not allowed to pick poppies. Today, there must be millions of poppies all throughout Israel, so the beautiful red flowers are probably no longer an endangered flower.

The Negev is the part of Israel that David Ben-Gurion dreamt of building up. He even moved to the Negev and is buried there. But the vast majority of the Negev is still empty. Israel has invested heavily to build up the city of the Negev, Be’er Sheva. But Israel still has a long way to go.

Perhaps one day the Negev will have many airports, outside of Beer Sheva and Eilat, and there will be new cities that will emerge in the hot desert. One thing is clear. The flowers will bloom in these cities like they do all around the Negev.
