Rockets slammed into Kiryat Ata and other Haifa communities injuring multiple people and setting various areas on fire. This followed an earlier barrage that made a direct hit near Carmiel, injuring three people.
The IDF stated, “Following the sirens that sounded between 15:40 and 15:45 in the areas of HaMifratz and the Galilee, approximately 80 projectiles were identified crossing from Lebanon into Israeli territory. Most of the projectiles were intercepted, and fallen projectiles were identified in the area.”
“Following the sirens that sounded between 16:02 and 16:03 in the areas of the Upper and Western Galilee, and HaMifratz, approximately 10 projectiles were identified crossing from Lebanon into Israeli territory. Some of the projectiles were intercepted, fallen projectiles were identified in open areas,” the IDF added.
The barrage comes while Israel is trying to pressure Hezbollah to accept the terms of the present ceasefire proposal put forth by the USA and Israel. The terms seem to indicate that the IDF will be able to stay in southern Lebanon for 60 days to ensure Hezbollah complies and then if it does, the Lebanese Armed Forces would be able to take over. According to the ceasefire proposed, Israel reserves the right to attack when necessary to ensure enforcement.
Given the magnitude of the barrages, Hezbollah is assumed to not want to accept any ceasefire that leaves Israel in Lebanon. Israeli presence in southern Lebanon is critical to make sure that short range rockets cannot be used on northern Israeli communities.
