The United Nations Human Rights Council only connection to human rights is its name. Yesterday the United States withdrew from the council because of the hypocrisy of this council. The Council simply does NOT stand up for human rights. Nikki Haley publicly stated that the council “is a cesspool of political bias”.
Basically, the United States left the UN Human Rights Council because the US actually cares about Human Rights.

Reactions
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted: “US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley has spent more than a year trying to reform the United Nations Human Rights Council. She has asserted U.S. leadership on everything from Assad’s chemical weapons use to DPRK to Iran’s malign activity. All while putting U.S. interests first. She is the right leader to drive our efforts at the UN.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement thanking President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley. For “their courageous decision against the hypocrisy and the lies of the so-called UN Human Rights Council.”
“For years, the UNHRC has proven to be a biased, hostile, anti-Israel organization that has betrayed its mission of protecting human rights,” Netanyahu charged. “Instead of dealing with regimes that systematically violate human rights, the UNHRC obsessively focuses on Israel, the one genuine democracy in the Middle East.”
He noted that the US decision to “leave this prejudiced body is an unequivocal statement that enough is enough.”
Israeli Ambassador to the UN Dani Danon also reacted to the United States move to leave the council. “The council has long been the foe of those who truly care about human rights around the world. Washington has proved, yet again, America’s commitment to truth and justice and its unwillingness to allow the blind hatred of Israel in international institutions to stand unchallenged.”
Boris Johnson, the Foreign Secretary, said the US decision was “regrettable.” “We’ve made no secret of the fact that the UK wants to see reform of the human rights council. But we are committed to working to strengthen the council from within,” he said.
Tweet Thread on how the Human Rights Council is a Politically Corrupt Organization That Does NOT Deal with Human Rights
.@amnesty Thanks for asking. Though we believe in staying in the ring to fight the bigots, here you go:
1. Members of the UNHRC include China, Cuba, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Egypt, Iraq, UAE, DR Congo & other thieves, murderers & rapists. https://t.co/6GUJvIdG65— Hillel Neuer (@HillelNeuer) June 20, 2018
3. The UNHRC appointed Idriss Jazairy—who as Algerian ambassador infamously drafted a Code of Conduct to muzzle UN human rights experts—as a UN human rights expert. His reports describe the regimes of Russia, Sudan & Syria as victims of Western sanctions. https://t.co/iEGurTXNhO

5. Not only was the regime of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro elected to the UN Human Rights Council, but they then rolled out the red carpet for him to address a special assembly & deliver a 40-minute propaganda speech, met by a standing ovation. , https://t.co/GEEtKaHHwq

It Just Gets Worse
7. For six years the UNHRC had Richard Falk as their “Special Rapporteur on Palestine,” even though he was condemned by the British government three times for #antisemitism, and by Ban Ki-moon for his “preposterous and insulting” 9/11 conspiracy theories. https://t.co/9hUXY6xrUv

9. UNHRC’s 2009 Goldstone Commission into Hamas-Israel war hired Dr. Grietje Baars to be their impartial author of key chapters of the report — knowing she was a radical supporter of Hamas & former European spox of the IHH terrorist-backed Gaza flotilla. https://t.co/kWdcmxJ2jL

11. And, @amnesty, precisely because the UN Human Rights Council is so dangerous in corrupting human rights principles worldwide, we’ve always advocated bold U.S. voices—like Haley, Moynihan or Morris Abram—to call out their racism, bigotry & antisemitism: https://t.co/k2i4SgjVwi
