As Israel gets closer to a decisive action in Southern Lebanon, Turkey’s Islamist leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has threatened to invade Israel if the Jewish State acts against Hezbollah.

Speaking to his faction, Erdogan said the following: “We must be very strong so that Israel can’t do these things to Palestine. Just as we entered Karabakh, just as we entered Libya, we might do the same to them. There is nothing we cannot do. Only we must be strong.“

Rightwing and de facto leader of Holland Geert Wilder slammed Turkey on Twitter. “Islamofascist Erdogan threatens to invade Israel. This guy is totally nuts. Turkey should be kicked out of NATO.”

Israel Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz responded to Erdogan by saying: “Erdogan follows in the footsteps of Saddam Hussein and threatens to attack Israel. Just let him remember what happened there and how it ended.”

With regional tensions rising exponentially since Hezbollah’s massacre of 12 Israeli Druze children, Erdogan’s comments should be seen seriously. With a falling economy and a despotic Islamist as a ruler, Turkey may look to jump in on any potential conflict between Israel and the Arab world.

Turkey may be weakened, but Israel would have a hard time holding off the combined forces of Hezbollah, Turkey, the Iraqi Shiite Militias and Iran itself. Turkey may also look to invade the rest of Cyprus - a critical blow to Israel’s defense doctrine.

The only way Israel can ensure Turkey stays out is if Israel goes all in and that means defending Cyprus from complete Islamist occupation as well as using unconventional warfare in Southern Lebanon.
