President Donald Trump commented on the ongoing, second-day negotiations with the terrorist organization Hamas, saying, “We’re engaged in serious talks on Gaza with a genuine chance for a deal. Our priority is the immediate release of the hostages.” Trump made these remarks during a White House meeting with Canada’s Prime Minister, speaking to reporters.

Meanwhile, in Sharm el-Sheikh, discussions persisted between Hamas representatives and mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and the US. Hamas sources described the talks as “positive” but noted that ongoing bombings in Gaza are hindering progress. According to sources, Hamas is insisting that hostage releases be linked to phased IDF withdrawals from Gaza and international assurances for a complete ceasefire.

According to Arab media, Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdel-Ati announced that a U.S. delegation is expected to participate in the negotiations, emphasizing that the initial phase focuses on releasing Palestinian hostages and terrorists and repositioning IDF forces. A Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that while many details of the Trump plan require agreement, Qatar is committed to pushing it forward.

In a White House discussion with reporters the previous evening, President Trump revealed that “Hamas has agreed to significant concessions” and expressed confidence, saying, “I’m quite optimistic we’ll secure a deal in Gaza.” He also praised Israel’s “excellent” cooperation.

Despite Trump’s statement, reports from Egypt indicate wide differences between the negotiating teams. Hamas rejects the disarmament clause, demanding a full IDF withdrawal from Gaza and insisting that all terms of the proposed outline be finalized before releasing hostages. The group has not shifted from its stance in prior negotiations and continues to oppose the Trump plan.

Internal divisions exist within Hamas, but the hardline faction currently holds sway. In Israel, there is frustration with Qatar and Turkey, who pledged to secure Hamas’s agreement to the outline but have so far failed to deliver.
