Years before the 100th birthday of Benzion Netanyahu, the father of Yonatan, Bibi, and Udi Netanyahu, Bibi Netanyahu had made it clear that the #1 threat facing the Jewish nation was the military buildup in Iran. Back in the late 1970’s, Benjamin Netanyahu was making waves as a leading young voice on how to confront the threat of terrorism around the world.
Benjamin Netanyahu was not a career politician. He studied in MIT following a successful short career as an elite Israeli soldier. In 1976, his older brother led the successful raid on the airport terminal in Entebbe in order to rescue more than 100 Jewish hostages. But Yoni was killed in the Operation that came to be known as Operation Thunderbolt.
A young Benjamin Netanyahu became a rising star within the Likud Party and in his 30’s he became the Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations. His speaking abilities were legendary and many hoped that he would one day assume the leadership of the State of Israel.
By the late 80’s, when Yitzhak Shamir was Prime Minister, Netanyahu had already become the Assistant to Moshe Arens, a lifelong Likudnik, who served as Defense Minister and Foreign Minister. During the Persian Gulf War in 1991, Netanyahu was the main government spokesmen to the world in English.
It was not surprising to many that in 1996 he was elected to become the Prime Minister of Israel. What has shocked many is how many times he has been reelected and how often he has served. He has become the longest serving Prime Minister in the history of the State of Israel, and his legacy will always be known for his steadfast focus on confronting the Iranian threat.
This all culminated with the successful war against Iran this year. The cutting off of the head of the snake will hopefully usher in many decades of peaceful prosperity in the State of Israel. Bibi followed the lead of his father to the tee and never stopped focusing on the most important lessons of histroy that he was taught at home.
