President Trump has asked for input from Christian leaders across America. After all the Middle East is not just a holy place for the Jewish People and the Muslims. Israel is a holy place for Christians as well.

Christianity and Israel

Christianity is one of the recognized religions in Israel, with over 172,000 Christians living in Israel.
Israel’s declaration of Independence issued in 1948, describes the country as a Jewish State but extends religious freedoms to all of its inhabitants by stating that Israel will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex. It will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education, and culture and it will safeguard the Holy Places of all religions.

Many Christians believe that the Jewish People have a right to the land of Israel. It is why they support the State of Israel. As stated in the declaration, Israel has been safeguarding the Holy Places for Christianity. Unlike when Jordan was in control of the Old City and destroyed over 50 Synagogues.

Christians believe there should be peace in the Middle East. The Jews and the Arabs should be able to find a middle ground. However, not at the expense of the security of Israel.

Palestinian Authority

The Palestinian Authority has been against President Trump since he stepped into office in 2016. They have disagreed with him over moving the American Embassy to Jerusalem and proclaiming it as Israel’s capital. The PA did not agree when President Trump proclaimed Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

The Palestinian Authority have a charter. In this charter, it states that they will not recognize the right for Israel to exist. How can Israel make peace with a country that does not believe it has a right to be there? Making peace with an enemy would compromise on the security of Israel and all of the citizens living in it.
