U.S. President Donald Trump, in a phone interview with Reuters on Sunday evening, expressed optimism about his upcoming meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating he received “very positive feedback from Arab nations and Israel” regarding the Gaza plan.
According to the American president, “Everyone wants to close the deal. I hope to close it in the meeting with Netanyahu on Monday.”
He further noted that the plan extends beyond Gaza, aiming to foster “broader peace” across the Middle East. President Trump did not clarify whether Hamas had responded to the emerging proposal, despite the terrorist group’s earlier claim that no new proposal had been received.
In an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu said that “we are currently working with President Trump’s team on the 21-point agreement, we hope that we will be able to advance the deal.” The prime minister clarified that “the details have not yet been agreed upon.” Afterwards, Netanyahu continued: “If Hamas leaders leave the country, release the hostages and end the war – we can give them a safe exit.”
Earlier today, Vice President J.D. Vance said in a Fox interview that “the day after” the president wants local Gazans to control the Strip. “I think the president was very clear. He really wants Gaza to be controlled by the people who live there, he wants Judea and Samaria to be controlled by the people who live there, and he wants the terror networks around the Israelis to be dismantled, so that they no longer pose a threat to the citizens of Israel,” he clarified.
The vice president referred to the negotiations for a deal with Hamas, saying that he felt: “more optimistic than at any point we have been in the last few months” but emphasized and warned: “It is cautious optimism. It (the deal) could fall apart at the last minute.”
