This Song Should be the Theme Song of the Jewish People

by Leah Rosenberg

Sometimes, the Jewish people need to be reminded to be proud of who they are and where they came from. This song is the perfect reminder.

The Jewish People Should be Proud

Music can give over messages in a way that speeches and words can’t. This song is a beautiful reminder of the importance of being a proud Jew. The Jewish people need to know where they came from, who they are, and what they represent. Especially today when antisemitism is soaring, Jews need to stay strong. They need to believe that they are part of something greater than themselves. Hiding their identity or being embarrassed is not the answer. The Jewish people come from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; from Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah. Their lineage is holy. Jews are holy.

Here are the English lyrics to this music video. Let’s internalize these words!

A little bit of history I’ve been through
Ask me where I’m from, and I will tell you
I’m a Jew and every Jew’s a proud Jew
Not just me, my sisters and my brothers
Never be ashamed to be a proud Jew
It’s not what you’ve done, it’s how He made you
So sing this song and spread the pride around you
Yehudi Ani, eternally!

Translation of chorus – I am a Hebrew (a Jew) and the L-rd, G-d of the heavens [is The One] I fear (Jonah, 1:9).

I’m a Jew and I’m proud
And I’ll sing it out loud
‘Cuz forever and ever
That’s what I’ll be
I’m a Jew and I’m proud
And without a doubt
Hashem is always watching over me.
