In a huge shift of policy on the Temple Mount, Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir led prayers on the Temple Mount. While the minister’s orders in recent weeks has allowed for more prayers on the Temple Mount, today’s Tisha B’Av prayers on the Jewish people’s holiest spot were earth shattering.
Along with open prayers, dancing, and singing at various areas of the Temple Mount, people wore tefillin and talitot (prayer shawls) opens - something that has never been done before.
Only a few years ago any sort of prayer was forbidden on the Temple Mount with the Jordanian Wakf working with the police to remove Jews that would prostrate and move their mouths in prayer. This has been steadily breaking down and with today’s open prayers, prostrations, Jewish symbols and singing and dancing, a new light is beginning to shine on the Temple Mount.
Itamar Ben Gvir’s presence and leadership at today’s gathering on the Temple Mount is not surprising as he has made it one of his top priorities. Given the fact that Hamas named their attack the Al Aqsa Flood - expanding Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount appears to be the best way to push back against Israel’s enemies.
The struggle over the Temple Mount is the core struggle today. It is about Jewish identity, Redemption, moving forward, and true sovereignty in our Land. This is why Israel’s enemies oppose the national push to return to the holiest place on earth and this is exactly why we must push and expand Jewish sovereignty and full Jewish prayers on the Temple Mount.
