The UN Shelters: A Sanctuary for Terror?

The state of Israel recently publicized that released hostages Romi, Emily, and Doron were held by Hamas in United Nations shelters in Gaza—intended for civilians. This revelation should shock the world. Yet, predictably, the United Nations remains silent, refusing to condemn Hamas for using these civilian-designated spaces to commit crimes against humanity. This silence is not just negligence; it’s complicity.

The UNRWA Problem: Funding Evil
For years, Israel and its supporters have highlighted the disturbing ties between the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and Hamas. UNRWA schools, hospitals, and offices have long been documented as storage sites for weapons and operational bases for terrorists. A number of UNRWA employees have been exposed as Hamas terrorists. And now, we learn that hostages, including innocent children, were hidden in United Nations facilities.

These institutions were established to promote peace and protect civilians. Instead, they have become enablers of terror with horrific, human rights abusing dictatorships and terror states heavily influential and running the show, all with Western democracies being complicit. No accountability, no reforms—just continued funding from Western governments that perpetuate this evil.

It’s time for the world to demand the disbanding of UNRWA and the United Nations itself. Any organizations that shelter terrorists, stores weapons, and hides hostages while claiming neutrality have forfeited their moral authority.

The Bigger Picture: Israel Stands Alone
This episode is yet another stark reminder that in the world of geopolitics, the Jewish people and the State of Israel stand alone. Despite the rhetoric of support, actions from Western powers, including the United States, often reveal a different reality.

Take the recent ceasefire extortion “deal”. President Trump warned of “hell” if hostages weren’t released by his inauguration—a statement many assumed targeted Hamas or its sponsors, Iran, Qatar and Egypt. Yet, instead of leveraging his power against these enablers of terror, Trump, via his envoy Steven Witkoff, pressured Israel.

Why not threaten Iran, the puppeteer of Hamas, with devastating consequences, like bombing their nuclear facilities, unless they ensured the release of our hostages? Why not hold Qatar accountable for financing Hamas and sheltering its leaders? Why not pressure Egypt for the flow of weapons into Gaza? Trump could have easily pressured any or all of those countries and gotten our hostages released without Israel having to release thousands of terrorists, leave Gaza and allow the Islamonazis of the world believe that they beat Israel, empowering them to continue terroriziing the whole freedom-loving world. Instead, Trump choose to pressure Israel, the victim of unprovoked barbarity, and appease evil. A dangerous “deal” that he would never have the US sign on to and endanger Americans with its consequences.

The Lesson for Israel
This should be a wake-up call for Israelis, Jews worldwide, American Jews, and Israeli leadership. Even with a friendly administration like Trump’s, the message is clear: Israel must rely on itself. America may be a crucial ally, but its priorities are its own. Americans voted for Trump to save America, not to save Israel or the Jews. Western governments, even those supportive of Israel, will never fight our battles for us.

Faith Above All
The ultimate takeaway for the Jewish people and all God-fearing individuals is this: our trust cannot rest in human leaders—neither Trump nor Netanyahu. While we can and should advocate for policies that align with our survival and values, our faith must remain in the Almighty.

Yes, the Trump administration represents a significant improvement over the 12 years of the Obama/Biden administrations, and what a Harris presidency would have been. Perspective is important. But it’s equally vital to remember that even the best of human leaders have limits, different interests, and will periodically disappoint us greatly.

Moving Forward
Despite this frustrating setback, we must not lose sight of the larger picture. The Jewish people have overcome over 3,000 years of persecution, exile, and attempts at annihilation. Today, Israel is stronger and more resilient than ever before, a regional superpower capable of defending itself and thriving in an increasingly hostile world.

This ceasefire deal, as painful and unjust as it is, is but a chapter in the larger story of Israel’s ultimate victory over its enemies. It is not a question of if we will prevail, but when.

Am Yisrael Chai.
