That of course seems like a bombastic statement. But it is true. ISIS understood that destroying the past destroys the future too. What Israel is fighting against is akin to a foe who wants to destroy Israel’s past and future.
Cultural symbols are important. Statues in America are very important. That is why it is important to note that the movement to destroy Jefferson monuments and others was not just a juvenile act of vandalism. It is an attempt to rewrite history and change the symbols that we look up to. Of all of the actions of the Black Lives Matter movement that was partially hijacked by the violent and anarchistic Antifa movement, the destruction of statues is probably the most underrated. After all, nobody seemed to be harmed by these actions – just insulted.
But that is a major mistake. It is political violence that is indicative of a major intention – that of upending the societal underpinnings that they live in. The Bible is the oldest proof of monotheism in the world and the basis of Judaism, Christianity and the Muslim religion. The archaeological discoveries are the physical verification of the efficacy of the Bible. The attempt to destroy this is akin to burning Bibles. This needs to be a red line that will not stand.
