The Unpolitically Correct Leader
Abba Eban was an Israeli diplomat and politician. He served many important positions in Israel’s early history, including positions such as Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister, Education Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and ambassador to the US and to the UN.
Oh, and he was unpolitically correct. He was courageous and spoke the truth. This interview is such a breath of fresh air to listen to. Despite the fact that it was in 1958, it is good to know that politicians like this can actually exist. There can actually be politicians who defend Israel, who stand up for what is right, and who speak the truth!
Wars of Aggression
When asked about Israel gaining land through war, Eban said, “Yes, I’m glad to say that I hope that whenever countries wage a war of aggression as the Arab states did, that they should be the losers by waging that war of aggression.” You just do not hear things like that today! He had perfect responses to every question. Eban gives the facts. He shares the truth. And he says it honestly, without holding back.
We are truly missing this type of politician today. Many politicians and diplomats are so focused on being politically correct, and that is not the way to stand up for the truth. Abba Eban ended this in the most priceless way: “They really have no reason to envy us, our 8,000 square miles.”
