Yishai’s analysis is spot-on. PM Netanyahu is absolutely dedicated to not allowing Iran to destroy Israel via it’s nuclear program. He has been saying so for more than 30 years. Yes, even with Donald Trump in the White House, Netanyahu will not buckle.
There are many things that can be negotiated today that were thought impossible a number of years ago. Saudi Arabia may very well conclude a normalization deal with Israel during this Trump administration, as part of the 2nd stage of the Abraham Accords. Gaza will probably become sectioned into several canotns. The North will probably be taken over completely by Israel. The south and center will probably be run by Israel’s military while attempts are made to move as much of the population out of Gaza as possible. Even Qatar can be pressured by the United States to accept hundreds of thousands of Arabs from Gaza.
But the head of the anti-Israel snake is Iran. The goal should be both to weaken the military capabilities of Iran and to weaken the hold on power of the Ayatollahs. This requires a sustained effort to pressure and not compromise with Iran. Bibi will play ball with Donald Trump on nearly every issue. But on Iran, even Netanyahu knows that he may be forced to part ways if the Trump administration is being foolhardy.
