Kamala Harris is not an insignificant person occupying a central post in the government of the United States. She is extremely close to becoming the leader of the free world. The second that Joe Biden decides to step down or not run in 2024, she will instantly become the President of the United States or the front runner to win the Democrat nomination. Following the disappointing 2022 midterm elections, it has become abundantly clear that 2024 will not be a cakewalk for the Republicans to take back the White House.
One of the main factors of the 2022 midterm elections was the “suburban mom” factor. Many of those voters either stayed home and did not vote for Hillary in 2016, voted for Joe Biden in 2020, and came out in droves to vote against Trump-supported candidates in the 2018 and 2022 midterms.
Outside of a Nikki Haley candidacy in 2024, Kamala Harris has a very good chance of sweeping that crucial constituency that often swings elections in crucial swing states. Obviously it is not her experience that she will focus on. But she has had more than enough experience dealing with reporters – many of whom will giver her a very easy time – that she will find it rather simple to navigate the election cycle.
Kamala watched Joe Biden run his election from his basement and duck most difficult questions. It was sufficient for Biden to win the election in a disputed split decision. She would be thrilled to win in the same fashion and make history as the very first female President of the United States.
The Republican Party must wise up and nominate young and exciting candidates against Kamala Harris. Ron DeSantis appears more and more attractive as Donald Trump’s obsessive focus on the past makes him appear more and more out of touch. Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo are both Republican heavyweights with foreign policy credentials that would add substance to any Republican nominee.
But nobody should count Donald Trump out until he loses the Republican nomination. He will probably be the front runner in the primaries until he loses a few critical States. Many Republicans rightfully acknowledge that he brought out voters in rural regions that had previously stayed home. The magnetism is still there on the Republican side for a Trump reelection.
But the Republicans have to think about beating Kamala Harris. Gavin Newsom and other potential candidates have very little success to run on. Kamala can at least run on Biden’s coattails. It is sad to admit, but many young Democrats can really connect with Kamala’s thin rhetoric – even if she calls young people stupid. Donald Trump vs. Kamala Harris will create the wrong optics in order to sway suburban Moms to vote Republican. She could pull it off if all of the stars line up in her favor. It’s a scary thought.
