Although the civil war that raged in Syria has more or less ended, Russian presence in that country appears to only have increased.
“We think that expanding the Russian presence in Syria is a good thing,” al-Assad told RIA in an interview published on Thursday. “Russia’s military presence in any country should not be based on anything temporary.”
“We believe that if Russia has the desire to expand bases or increase their number, it is a technical or logistical issue.”
This is a serious issue for Israel. Israel has been trying to stay neutral in the Russia-Ukraine war, but with each move towards Ukraine Israel makes, Russia makes an equal towards Israel’s enemies. The fact is, Putin has always had his sites on Jerusalem. With Syria inviting him to more troops into the country, the stage is set for a possible showdown between Moscow and Jerusalem.
