WhatsappIsrael and the Jewish people are being treated in a way that is completely anti-semitic – in public. Why is this not a headline across the world? Why are media outlets not treating anti-semitism as the genuine threat that it really is? Is it perhaps proof that indeed we have not learned some of the critical lessons of the Holocaust?
The unfortunate answer is – absolutely – yes. The lesson that must be said over and over again is that silence in the face of evil breeds more evil. But today, the reason why there is so much “tolerance” towards these kinds of parades is sue to the fact that in today’s day and age, nearly any form of expression is tolerated as part of free speech.
This is wrong. Freedom of speech is an inalienable right – that is true. But when it contradicts other rights such as the security of a certain group of people, than it should not be protected. Rabbi Dov Lipman says it so eloquently. We need to demand a stop to this ridiculous double standard. We need to learn to stand up and protest. Public displays of anti-Semitism must not be tolerated.
