In an in depth interview on CNN, Prime Minister Netanyahu responded to critics around the world of Israel’s Judicial Reform legislation.

Despite the fear that “Israel is becoming a dictatorship,” Netanyahu explained how this new law tackles a specific power Israel’s Supreme Court granted itself over the years. Essentially, Israel’s Supreme Court has been able to strike down any executive decision by merely calling it “unreasonable.” Netanyahu, rightly pointed out that no other democracy in the world has given their supreme court that much power.

Netanyahu insisted that “we want an independent court, just not an all powerful court.”

In reality, Israel’s Supreme Court has been aggregating power for years. Israel’s newest Basic Law is a minor correction in a much more needed comprehensive Judicial over haul. America’s leaders can complain about Israel, Netanyahu has always refrained about commenting on internal American political disputes. Unfortunately the rest of the world believes they can interfere in Israel’s.
