At 6:30 in the morning, residents of Tel Aviv the surrounding areas woke up to sirens blaring warning them to run to their safe rooms.
Hezbollah announced that it had in fact fired a Qader missile at Israel’s Mossad Headquarters that is located in Tel Aviv. The Qader 1 is a precision guided missile with a distance of 300km. This was the first time Hezbollah had used such a missile since the October 7th 2023 Hamas invasion. Hezbollah joined the multi-front war against Israel the next day on October 8th.
The Qader 1 is a surface-to-surface ballistic missile and if it wasn’t for the David’s Sling missile defense system, it very could have slammed into Tel Aviv. Unlike the Iron Dome, David’s Sling is designed to protect Israel from medium range ballistic missiles like the Qader 1.
Why Tel Aviv, Why Now?
Putting Tel Aviv in play this early means that Nasrallah very well might be cornered as Israel insists he is. Attacking Tel Aviv is expected to elicit the kind of response that will bring Iran in to the fight. This something that Sinwar wanted, but could never pull off.
Hezbollah’s continued bombardment of Israel on a daily level and Israel’s overwhelming response not only does not see any sign of abating, but rather increasing and heading to a ground invasion by the IDF into Lebanese territory. When Israel sends ground troops in, Iran, Syria, Turkey, and the Iraq Shiites may decide to jump in against Israel.
