People literally ran out of their shoes, people and children fell and were stepped on, yet thankfully there were only light injuries from this event which could have ended much, much worse.
In general, the Western world is a scarier place than it used to be with terror attacks happening every once in a while. Specifically, Americans are more aware of potential shootings in their midst as well, whether by Muslim terrorists, right-wing radicals and left-wing radicals. Just this week America experienced two deadly shooting attacks, one in El Paso by a right-winger and one in Daytona by a left-winger.
The fear of shooting attacks is real. And this episode in Times Square is the powerful evidence of this new reality.
