Syrian State TV reported that at 12:40 am Friday, Israeli warplanes fired a barrage of missiles from the north of the Lebanese city of Tripoli. The Tomahawk missiles were aimed at the Syrian town of Masyaf in the Hama province.

Israel often uses Lebanese airspace to strike Syria due to the need to keep from triggering Syria’s Russian made defense systems which are said to be impenetrable. By using Lebanese airspace Israel is capable of tricking the air defense systems.

Israel appears to be ready to ratchet up the pressure on Iran before the Trump administration leaves the White House on Jan 20th. Furthermore, the Abraham Accords has given Israel the strategic and geopolitical depth to be able to increase it attacks on Iranian proxies in Syria and Lebanon.
