Pompeo knows that the head of the snake is Iran, and Iran knows that this is their window of opportunity while Biden is in power to terrorize Israel. The sanctions in Iran were basically cancelled by the Biden administration and that has led to Iran pressing the button on aggression via Hamas and Hizbullah.
Israel now finds itself in an impossible situation. Hamas may have surprised Israel and caused Israel to have the worst day in its history on October 7th, 2023. However, Hizbullah has a far stronger and more precise weapons cache. Israel knows that sooner or later they will have to face the threat. Meanwhile, more than 100,000 Israelis are either refugees, semi-refugees or preparing for an onslaught of missiles at their homes.
Netanyahu would rather wait till a Republican administration is in power before hitting back at Hizbullah. But the suffering of the Israelis in Lebanon has been unbearable for the last 8 months. Could Netanyahu try to drag things on for yet another six months? Doubtful. Israel is probably about to embark on the 2nd part of its 2nd War of Independence. It has been very costly and will probably be even more costly in the Lebanon stage. But as usual, Israel really has no choice.
