WhatsappIn a shocking admission NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said, “NATO allies have agreed that Ukraine will become a member of our alliance, but at the same time that is a long-term perspective.”
This is of course is a red line for Russia as Putin has warned that Ukraine joining NATO will turn this into WW3. While NATO might think this is a bluff – it is not. Ukraine as part of NATO would threaten the very heartland of Russia. Russians see NATO as not only an enemy but one that is fast occupying traditional slavic lands.
While there is no question that NATO has an interest in gobbling up more up Eastern Europe – why did Stoltenberg find the need to admit this openly?
It seems that NATO is interested in provoking Russia into a wider war in order to claim the need to enter in even a stronger way. If this is the case, it is a gamble and one the West may not win.
