WhatsappJoe Biden has done it again. The Biden administration has begun to remove sanctions from Iran and the Iranian regime has to give nothing in return.
None of this should be surprising. After all, the Biden administration essentially pulled out of Afghanistan in what looked more like a chaotic retreat than anything else. Now the Kabul syndrome is spreading to Biden’s Iran strategy.
The Biden Administration has decided to drop sanctions on Iran’s civilian nuclear program. Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed several wavers on Friday in connection to Iran’s “civilian” nuclear program.
“The waiver with respect to these activities is designed to facilitate discussions that would help to close a deal on a mutual return to full implementation of the JCPOA and lay the groundwork for Iran’s return to performance of its JCPOA commitments,” the State Department said in a notice to the US Congress.
Iran has been stalling in the Vienna talks, with many observers believing that the talks are merely a stalling tactic to allow Iran to reach nuclear breakout in a matter of weeks.
Instead of holding strong in their opposition to a nuclear Iran, the Biden Administration appears to be begging for Iran to sign a deal with the international community. With Biden’s move, Israel and the Gulf Sunni States are becoming more and more isolated. If a new deal is struck, Israel and the Gulf states will be on their own and will have to decide if a preemptive attack on Iran’s nuclear program can and should be pulled off.
