Inspiring Jews Worldwide

The video of this 6-year-old boy was sent throughout social media. It was just a mother recording her cute child singing a popular song for the High Holidays that is found in the prayer service. But it became much more.

People all over loved his voice. They loved how he sang out to G-d so genuinely.

Everyone loves people who are real. The innocence of this boy made so many feel so connected to what he was singing and helped people feel the spirit of the High Holidays.

The Powerful One-liner

The song that this boy sang is called “Avinu Malkeinu.” It is found in a set of requests to G-d. This specific request is the last of the list. In Hebrew, the words are: Avinu malkeuni chaneinu va’aneinu ki ein banu ma’asim. Aseh imanu tzedaka va’chesed v’hoshi’enu. In English (courtesy of the Koren Siddur): Our Father, our King, be gracious to us and answer us, though we have no worthy deeds; act with us in charity and loving-kindness and save us.

The little boy sang an English version that is not the exact translation but an idea that is a theme of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kipper (the High Holidays). It is really a beautiful concept, especially coming from such a young boy.

May we all be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life!
