Reports from Iranian opposition sources indicate that the Israeli Air Force struck the building of the Assembly of Experts in the city of Qom at the very moment senior clerics were reportedly convened to choose Iran’s next Supreme Leader.

The Assembly of Experts, an 88-member clerical body tasked under Iran’s constitution with appointing and overseeing the Supreme Leader, has been central to Iran’s internal power struggle following the recent elimination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The body’s emergency session in Qom was widely seen as a decisive moment in determining the future direction of the Islamic Republic.

According to early reports, the strike targeted the complex where deliberations were underway. Footage circulating on regional channels shows significant structural damage to a religious-administrative compound in Qom. It remains unclear whether the main chamber of deliberation was directly hit or whether the assembly had relocated portions of its proceedings for security reasons.

If confirmed, the strike would represent a dramatic escalation: not merely targeting military infrastructure, but directly disrupting the regime’s leadership succession process. Analysts note that the move signals a shift from degrading Iran’s capabilities to destabilizing its command structure at the highest clerical level.

There is no verified casualty count at this stage, and Iranian state media has not released detailed information regarding injuries or fatalities among senior clerics. Tehran has condemned the attack and vowed a response.

The broader regional conflict continues to intensify, with Israeli and allied operations targeting key regime nodes while Iran launches retaliatory missile and drone attacks across multiple fronts.
