The Biden administration has hit an impasse with Iran. True, news leaks appear to show that Biden has readied the way to lift sanctions in order to entice Iran into a deal, but the deal itself seems to be still far off.
The reason for the impasse appears to be Israel’s threats of gong it alone against Iran. The message there is really about Israel going on its own altogether. The US simply cannot afford to lose Israel as a trusted ally. Without it, the USA’s connection to the region begins to disintegrate.
More than that, Biden cannot take a chance that a strong Israel will pivot elsewhere – either to Russia or even China.
For this reason, the Biden team is taking a second look at just how important the deal really is.
