Every time a major leader, such as the President of the United States comes to visit Israel, Israel feels the need to do some concessions and display flexibility with it’s Arab neighbors. This is a mistake, but it is repeated every time.

As Israel is in the begininning of yet another election season, there are no truly far-reaching decisions that can be made with this administration. The main point of this trip is probably to clarify with Saudi Arabia and Israel what America needs in the way of gas and oil in reference to the Russia-Ukraine war. The gas shortage is and steep inflation has brough the United States into a very difficult economic situation and Joe Biden has to appear to be trying his hardest to stem the tide of inflation.

But the real asnwer is in the United States. If the US would resume drilling, America would be far less dependent on Russian oil and gas. But that is exactly what the Republicans have been screaming for decades. The Democrats are looking for any way out that does not mean capitulation to this direction.

But the only true solution is energy independence. Israel must take note also about how vital energy independence is.
